the xx

Screen Shot 2014-02-05 at 6.03.03 AMDon’t fret, this isn’t a dirty post; I’m short an x. I am actually doing a rare thing here: sharing a band on the blog. I don’t often do this, since music is often of such personal taste, it’s hard to be 100% confident that people will also enjoy it. The XX has been around since 2009 so they may be old news to some, but just the other night was my first listen to their self-titled album. Unexpectedly, this record helped me unearth some ideas that have been trapped inside my brain for far too long. With thoughts finally surfaced, and fully recorded, I now have 3 new pages in the sketchbook! They are mostly a flurry of lists and quick sketches, but I have a feeling that they may very well dictate the new direction of my work this year. Amazing how good music can help you accomplish something quickly, even if it’s as simple of a task as cleaning the kitchen!Follow my blog with Bloglovin

unseen Etsy snaps

When approached by Etsy to be a featured shop, I was detailed with the task of taking portraits of both my studio and myself. At first I was a little overwhelmed by the idea: as a self-taught photographer who often dislikes being in front of the lens, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to even capture the mood of my studio, let alone the one in my heart… However, all it took was setting up the camera on a tri-pod, rigging the self-timer, and just creating as I usually do. I was thrilled with the results, and I am very proud of these shots. Etsy shared 9 of my photographs in the interview, but I thought I would show you the extra snaps that I took.centered2 06 04 11 12 10 desk 05I would encourage all artists, designers and makers, to set up a little photo-shoot for themselves in order to document their process, craft and studio space. These images let your customers and future buyers connect even better with you; they can directly see your involvement, the touch of the your hand, and the beautiful space in which the work is created. Too often do these aspects of our work remain a mystery; it is nice to give our interested customers and friends another look at our process and creative space.

oh, hello there.

A big hello to all of you wonderful people! I’m sorry I’ve been quiet lately; I’ve been busy finishing up some exciting commissioned projects (one pictured below) ordered via etsy, (still) unpacking into the new pad/studio, and also preparing for a big opportunity that just came my way (I can’t spill the beans until mid-September).20130817-071818.jpg20130817-071833.jpg

I thought I shouldn’t stay mute for too long though, and wanted to ensure you that I have some fun things to share soon. The most exciting of which will be some peeks into the new studio!!! I also plan to do a “half full” bike ride adventure soon (my other optimistic outings can be seen here, here and here). I started carving a new relief plate for some prints this fall and am excited to see the piece evolve. I recently tapped into my green thumb again, and treated the new place to some pretty plants (a couple pictured below).20130817-071908.jpgIs there something you’d like to see on the blog in the near future? Features you’d like to have come back? DIYs you’d like to learn? Leave a comment with your ideas! Hope all is well in your neck of the woods. Xo
