may flowers

8 May

Screen Shot 2014-05-08 at 9.42.18 AMThey say spring showers bring may flowers; currently that old saying applies to my life as well. After a tough start to the year, and a spring filled with sad news, I feel like I have finally found the sunshine and that blessings are starting to blossom. Time has of course helped, not to mention the arrival of sunshine, flowers and green grass… Other little reminders of how life goes on, such as the arrival of a birthday, also helped to push me out of this rut. I celebrated a new beginning with the end of April, and enjoyed one of my quietest birthdays to date. I was spoiled with some beautiful presents by friends and family and had a nice romantic evening, including a dinner out with my fiance (the above blooms were a gift from him). Other “flowers” that have been part of my spring bouquets: phone calls with my grandmother in the hospital, riding my bike instead of driving the car, filling a big order for a new gallery, setting up the patio furniture, watching birds on the feeder, reading business marketing books, drinking hot cups of loose leaf tea, and making healthy home-cooked meals. These may all just seem like simple little things, but put together, they have become the collective bundle of joy that has helped push me forward. I am excited to be capable of doing and sharing more in the coming weeks! I wanted to quickly note, that it has always been my goal to write and share personal, genuine and inspiring content on this blog, and after a small hiatus I finally feel capable of doing so again… so thank you again friends for your support and understanding during my recent absence. Here’s to a wonderful and colorful new start.

too good tuesday 10

9 Jul

lifeisgoodFLOWERSEverything has been too good lately. John and I did the big move over a week ago, and couldn’t be more thrilled with the upgrade to our new house. We hosted both sets of parents this weekend, and enjoyed sitting in the sun on¬†the brand new patio furniture, and dreamed up recipes for the newly acquired BBQ (many inspired by a gifted cookbook & its feature beer can chicken). Sunday, we watched John play softball, while eating a picnic dinner that consisted of our fresh catch from the Columbia River in an amazing cold bean salad. I found a bit of time between innings and taught my little cousins how to draw owls! The weather in the Kootenays has been ridiculous… hello summer! With all this sunshine, I can’t wait to get on our beautiful bikes and cruise around the new neighbourhood. Yesterday, I started a new part-time job, working for a dragon; After two happily engaged years, my beau and I have been finally talking plans about the wedding, the prospect of owning our own home, and maybe someday even raising a family… all of these things require money! We have been doing well for ourselves, considering we’re both chasing careers that are fueled mostly by passion, but the prospect of saving up for a brighter future has me excited to also put in some work away from the studio.¬† I’ve also been continuing to paint under the open sky, as you can see above, adding to my adventures with watercolours. Life is good these days.

a fresh start

Screen Shot 2013-07-03 at 11.06.54 AMThe above quote encompasses the overwhelming feeling my fiance and I are experiencing having moved from a basement suite into our new house. It is hard to explain just how much we are enjoying a beautiful space that is completely ours both inside and out; privacy, quiet, calmness, freedom, sunshine, warmth are just a few of the many things that are contributing to our peace of mind. We have been craving this sense of happiness and relief for a long time; it does feel like a well deserved reward.

As I write this, I am amidst piles of boxes, a flurry of bubble wrap, and surrounded by plenty of furniture still looking for it’s proper place… there is a lot of hard work ahead of me, but it will be so fun to start fresh. I’m especially looking forward to getting the studio set up, and will of course share photos with you as soon as I do. Wish me luck!
