packing things up; even my pencils

23 Mar

I can’t believe the end of March has already arrived, but this year has been melting away. However this is exciting, because it means it’s time for my family’s Mexican vacation. I have been cleaning, doing laundry, writing lists, packing and organizing for the past couple days and am finally starting to get the little travel butterflies in my belly! It is so exciting to know that good people, amazing food & beautiful weather are on my horizon. My giddiness to soon experience the three S’s this coming weekend made me create the drawing shown at the beginning of this post. To create it, I used an absolutely gorgeous set of graphite & coloured chalk pencils that my sister gifted me for Christmas. At first I thought that the packaging was a bit excessive, but it only took a matter of minutes to realize that these would actually be the perfect tools for on-the-go drawings. Each pencil sits lined up in a drawer inside it’s own protective foam slit; the drawer slides closed and the pencils stay safe & secure while in transit. No rattling, or broken leads to be had! The other wonderful part is that the cases are no larger than a hardback book, so they’re just as easy to carry around in my tote as a zippered pouch filled with drawing supplies. I’m so excited to put these pencils and their fancy packaging to the true test with this glorious international trip that starts in just a matter of hours. John & I fly into Alberta to meet up with my entire family tomorrow morning. My parents are no longer able to come on the trip due to unforeseen circumstances, so I am glad we are making an extra stop in Alberta so we can spend some much needed time with them both before flying to & coming home from Mexico. John, my sister, her husband Andy & I head for the sunny shores of the Mayan Riviera early Sunday morning. Wish us a Bon Voyage!

They do look like fabulous pencils, I can’t draw but I do occasionally enjoy colouring in – it’s something a friend of mine got me into in order to deal with my stress. Have fun. :-)

Have a safe trip and a wonderful vacation! Sounds like it will be fantastic and I’m sure you’ll get all kinds of inspiration coming out of those colored pencils while you’re there. Enjoy! :D
