bird silhouettes

2 Feb

The sketchbook project was a good start to 2012 for me… an exercise that helped me to ease into a new year in my studio. Sometimes I find that without upcoming show dates, deadlines or creating in general without any added pressure can sometimes hamper productivity and creativity. Knowing that I had to finish altering this volume by the end of January really helped push me to make. With 20+ new pages of inspiration to draw from, I already have several ideas swirling in my head for new and exciting projects for the coming months…The sketchbook spread I am sharing with you today was one of the few that I found fairly easy to replicate. Creating the original image (above) however was very time consuming, as I had carefully hand cut all of these bird silhouettes into paper – making a paper stencil. Because I carefully stored the paper stencil in a file folder, creating this spread’s homage was only a matter of finding a new forest inspired background paper and using the existing stencil. A light green page with tree silhouettes and a gorgeous silver foil accenting was the perfect fit for my tribute page.

Very nice! I love all the little details adding up to the whole and I’m happy to see pages of your lost book resurfacing here in this one. I cannot wait to check your sketchbook out when the tour comes to SF!!
