my etsy shop in real life

16 Nov

I was so thrilled when I finally launched my etsy shop at the end of June this year; If only I had done it sooner! Honestly, my only complaint about having customers shop in an online store is how browsing can be sometimes seem boring: It’s just a list, with item after item in thumbnails: it makes it feel like individual products more so than it is a COLLECTION. It kills that feeling you get when you ACTUALLY go shopping: stepping into a store, feeling a mood, seeing product layed out, displayed and featured, watching it interact with other items and the space. Knowing that all of my etsy products had lived in a lonely cardboard box during my summer art travels, I decided to take the time when I got home, to give my product a little more respect, not to mention some breathing room. All it took was hanging a small wall shelf, a thrifted wooden spoon display above all of my paper portfolios, and pushing a few pins into the wall, to transform part of the spare bedroom  into my “REAL LIFE” etsy shop. All of my jewelry hangs on spoon display shelf that I thrifted for just $1 and modified with a bit of metal wiring. Genius.  Three framed feather pieces are hung on the lovely sky blue wall while three others sit on the shelf amongst journals, zines, buttons, wallets and prints. In a smaller basket that hangs under the shelf I keep out some of my cardboard packing envelopes.  I feel accomplished seeing my items out on display, where they are able to have a conversation and show off their exquisite beauty… plus it’s an awful lot easier to find an item that sells amongst this set-up rather than searching through a box. Now if only I knew how to direct foot traffic into here, I could slowly convert our house into a gallery (just don’t tell John)! Until I figure that out, visit me online at my etsy shop or wait 3 more weeks and come see my booth space at the One of a Kind Show in Vancouver.
