mess is more

20 Jul

Im seriously floating on cloud nine after my good friend Caren Gibb informed me of some awesome news… I’ll preface by reminding you about a post I did in May that featured photos of my home studio, one which captured it amidst projects in all of it’s messy glory. The reason for taking the untidy portrait was because a favorite gallery and publication of mine, Uppercase, had a call for submissions to their magazine 2 months ago titled “Mess is More.” Uppercase is a gallery that has an incredible shop in Art Central in Calgary, Alberta and they also make the most gorgeous quarterly magazine and some fantastic books including The Shatner Show (a personal favorite on my bookshelf). You may be already connecting the dots, but YES my studio portrait was selected to be featured in the 10th publication, amongst about a dozen messy artist studios! I truly couldn’t believe it, mostly because I hadn’t heard anything from them, and thus had assumed it wasn’t accepted. How wrong I was…Naturally I am elated to be a part of the pages in this gorgeous publication and to know that my little creative space in 100 Mile House, BC is now being shared with the big bad art world! RAD!I’ve long wanted a subscription but hadn’t been ready to take the financial leap… however, now that I’ve been published in it, I treated myself to a subscription, starting with issue 10. I can’t wait to hold my own copy in my excited little paws!

Ah that’s amazing! How cool to have your room honoured like that. I think your mess is more organised chaos than my has-a-bomb-gone-off-in-here? mess.

I agree! And yes, the studio has DEFINITELY had messier days, but I do tend to be a PILER. there are always at least 10 piles of books, papers, supplies, etc strewn about the studio and house. It may be chaos, but as you said, organized chaos

Congrats! I always say, when it’s very messy here, that it is an organized chaos.
