secret fort

6 May

My apologies for not posting or tweeting much this week, John’s parents are visiting us and so I haven’t been on many studio ventures as of late. I did however find some time this morning to go for a nice walk near the creek and I had an ulterior motive… Recently in my mailbox, I received another art adventure from Rhya Tamasauskas  after completing my first adventure, the small felt heart. This time I was given a miniature flag marked with the words “secret fort” and was asked to build or discover a fort and mark it. Then share the results with others and let them in on the secret. I wanted to find a fort that belonged to one of the many furry creatures that lives among the nearby trees and creek. On my walk, it took a bit more searching than I had suspected. But, after venturing off the path and into the bush for a bit, I stumbled upon a few small tunnel entrances near the trunk of a large pine. I’m not 100% positive who the fort belongs to, but my guess would be a marmot… They supposedly exist in abundance here in the South Cariboo. We even have marmot crossing signs on our highway, while most areas would have deer warnings. However, my uncertainly about the fort owner makes it all the more secret, and all the more fitting to be marked with Rhya’s little purple flag.
