In my mail box

24 Mar

Time has flown by and I am far over-due for a mail art post again! I’ve realized that after three years of doing this, my list is finally at the size where I can expect to receive at least one mail art package a week in my little post box, if not more… yessssssss, Mail art victory is mine! Since I have waited two weeks to write, there is too much to post all at once; so first, what was in my mail box… next post, what I sent to others’ mailboxes. This week in my post box I got a long awaited envelope from the infamous Justice Bicycle.I had just done a 5 hour drive home from the west coast and grabbed this beauty out of the post box when I arrived. It was the cherry on top of an amazing adventure weekend (as Justice Bicycle is one of my dearest and most beloved friends). The envelope was hand colored blue along with the unmistakable/infamous writing. On the front a tiny moustached swirl saying “i cannae wait tew see yew.” On the back “you are my hydrogen.” Inside, it all made sense- a card with wishes that my hand was becoming capable, awesome pigeon and ‘squirrel’ drawings and a moustached green poop key cover (the drawing on the envelope was in fact a portrait). HAHA only Justice Bicycle. Also, ask and ye shall receive: I’ve been using receipt books for triplicate drawings, but the grid printing on them ruins it a bit. After seeing this parcel and professing my jealousy, Justice Bicycle has graciously offered to send me a couple BLANK triplicate pads. Yay, what a pal! Prior to my trip I discovered a package in my post box which was a welcomed surprise. I had forgotten that miss Andrea Couchene and I were exchanging mail art, because she decided she would send to me first. A cardboard mailer sealed with pink and purple tape held a stamped enveloped filled with stickers, pins, postcards, notes and the best part… … a tiny little fuzzy fawn who now rests happily on my bookshelf after her long journey. My sister Ali Martin sent a long-awaited-parcel with wooden earrings, uppercase gallery postcards and stationary, tasty food network recipes, a hand-drawn/hand-written note and, I don’t know where the hell she found this, some of my old sheet music from when I played drums back in the 90’s (“big me” by the foo fighters, wow, too funny). Federales (aka Johnny Dimas) sent something almost a month ago and it finally showed up! A big square box, decorated on the inside with some rad drawings & stickers! It contained 3 pieces, including one of his long admired Topo Chico prints and a cool bird drawing over top of colorful spray paint. So happy to know this printmaker! The ever so adorable Valeria Poropat sent a loving reply with a gorgeously decorated envelope and an altered book page inside. There was also a drawn bookmark, a lovely note and a postcard. Unfortunately the envelope had already been ripped open when I found it in my postbox, so I hope everything made it! I do however love all of the wonderful things that survived the long trek from Italy. All in all I was pretty spoiled at the post box. Feels good to get this article finished! I will soon be posting about some things I sent that were received these past couple weeks.
