Earlier this year, I was drawing two feathered friends for a wonderful client, who is also a very close family friend. Now that these pieces are safely with her, I wanted to share them. She had commissioned me to create “a snowy owl with dreamy eyes” for her to gift to a friend who has been especially helpful to her in the past year. In many previous conversations over dinners and glasses of wine, we had talked about her getting an owl drawing of her own, so while creating the owl that she would gift away, I also sneakily sketched an owl to gift especially to her. I have been looking forward to sharing these two beauties with you guys here on the blog; since there has been barely any snow this winter so far, it seemed extra fitting to share something snowy. Do you like them? As always, if you are interested in commissioning me for a drawing, send me an e-mail with your ideas to firstname.lastname@example.org
New ideas have been sprouting out of my brain like crazy… my sketchbook pages especially have been sprouting some new things. I’m super happy to have my creative groove back, and a new body of work that has been on the forefront these days is a series all about mushrooms. I AM IN LOVE! The shapes, the texture, the colors… they are adorable and absolutely fascinating. I’ve been playing with line drawing and relief printmaking so far, and truly have enjoyed just making and experimenting. I might want to try my hand at painting or sculpting a few of these cuties too, but I’ll make sure to keep it simple if I do. Who knows where this new series will take me!? Thought I’d share some photographs of the process, exploration and results thus far. Enjoy!
Been working on this handsome devil for a little while. He is coming along nicely, albeit a bit slowly with distractions of the upcoming move… Rams always make me think of Radium BC, the gateway to the valley where you can find Windermere Lake and my family cabin. I have enjoyed being back with pencil in hand, mapping out ideas and getting lost in the line work of texture. Thought I should share some of my recent studio progress with you, as it’s been a little while.
